It was eventually sold at Christie's as part of a fundraiser for a staggering $800,000, the proceeds reportedly going towards helping impoverished children . On what would have been the actress' 93rd birthday, L'OFFICIEL recounts the history and rise to fame of Audrey Hepburn's iconic Breakfast at Tiffany's little black dress. Whether that be in real-life or movies, Audrey’s bridal style was enviable and classic. When Audrey married her second husband Andrea Dotti in 1969, Hubert de Givenchy once again designed her look. Audrey paired the mini dress with tights and ballet pumps which gave the look an understated, classic feel.
She solely held British nationality, since at the time of her birth Dutch women were not permitted to pass on their nationality to their children; the Dutch law did not change in this regard until 1985. A further reference is her birth certificate which clearly states British nationality. When asked about her background, Hepburn identified as half-Dutch, as her mother was a Dutch noblewoman. Furthermore, she spent a significant number of her formative years in the Netherlands and was able to speak Dutch fluently. However, in 2010 Emma Thompson commented that Hepburn "can't sing and she can't really act"; some people agreed, others did not.

In addition, it was produced by Mel Ferrer and filmed on the brink of their divorce.

Hepburn's mother, Baroness Ella van Heemstra (12 June 1900 – 26 August 1984), was a Dutch noblewoman. Ella was the daughter of Baron Aarnoud van Heemstra, who served as mayor of Arnhem from 1910 to 1920 and as governor of Dutch Suriname from 1921 to 1928, and Baroness Elbrig Willemine Henriette van Asbeck (1873–1939), a granddaughter of Count Dirk van Hogendorp. At age 19, she married Jonkheer Hendrik Gustaaf Adolf Quarles van Ufford, an oil executive based in Batavia, Dutch East Indies, where they subsequently lived. They had two sons, Jonkheer Arnoud Robert Alexander Quarles van Ufford (1920–1979) and Jonkheer Ian Edgar Bruce Quarles van Ufford (1924–2010), before divorcing in 1925, four years before Hepburn's birth.
